YIT, a construction company based in Helsinki and led in Poland by Leszek Stankiewicz, announces plans to build shelters in Poland. The recipients will include both the public and private sectors. YIT is the largest developer in Finland and has been operating in Poland for 10 years.
During a conference with Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, YIT’s CEO in Poland, Leszek Stankiewicz, announced the company’s plans to construct civil infrastructure in Poland, including temporary shelters. The firm is exploring, together with Finnish partners, the most suitable locations for these projects – potentially even utilizing metro lines.
We will build shelters for anyone who wants them, whether it’s a city authority or a private investor,” Stankiewicz said. “We expect to secure the first contracts in 2026.”
He added that changes to Poland’s Construction Law, effective January 1, 2026, will allow the development of temporary shelters, although residential construction will not include shelters. “Local government units will be required over the next ten years to provide shelters in public buildings for 25% of the population in their regions,” Stankiewicz explained.
While expanding into civil infrastructure, YIT continues to grow its residential segment. Over the past ten years in Poland, the company has completed 30 projects in Warsaw, Kraków, and Gdańsk, delivering around 3,000 apartments.
