IKEA announced plans to open its second compact-format store in Poland in Białystok. The new location will be situated in the Zielone Wzgórze Shopping Center, in the space of the modernized Carrefour hypermarket. The investment is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.
The new location will mark another step in the development of IKEA’s smaller store format in Poland, which debuted in 2025 in Bielsko-Biała.
The investment in Białystok will be carried out under an agreement between IKEA Retail and Carrefour Polska. The project includes the adaptation of part of the existing Carrefour hypermarket’s retail space in the Zielone Wzgórze Shopping Center. Along with the opening of the IKEA store, the hypermarket will be rebuilt and modernized.
Compact stores allow for faster entry into local markets and increase the brand’s availability beyond the largest urban centers.
Thanks to them, we can reach regions with high potential, offering residents professional advice and inspiration right near their homes says Marina Dubakina, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Retail in Poland.
The IKEA store will cover a total area of over 3,600 sqm. It will include:
- Direct sales – more than 2,000 home furnishing products will be available on-site, with a special focus on accessories;
- Exhibition and inspiration – a space featuring ready-made interior arrangements;
- Design services – a key pillar of the format, offering professional advice as well as kitchen and storage planning services;
- E-commerce synergy – the store will serve as a hub for the full range of IKEA products available online;
- Food area – complemented by the IKEA Bistro and the Swedish Food Market.
