Scandinavia sets trends for Smart City in Poland 4-04-2019

Copenhagen is named the world’s “smartest city” by Future Today Institute. Public-private partnerships, accessible digitized citizen data, and long-term urban planning and environmental protection are some of the reasons for the city’s top ranking.

Researching and analysing 100 cities worldwide, Future Today Institute has compiled a Smart City index in its 2019 Tech Trends report, ranking the cities best prepared for the future. The authors of the survey point our that Copenhagen takes the top spot owing to its suistainable profile. The best example of this is the fact that the city aims at becoming 100% carbon-nautral by 2025.

The Polish cities are following the footsteps. In fact, some of the key Scandinavian companies are currently active in supporting the implemention of the Smart City concept into Poland, with the best example being a cooperation conducted between Ericsson and Nokia Solutions & Networks and the city of Wroclaw. Joining forces with Ericsson and TAURON Polska Energia, Wroclaw is now set to become Poland’s first city with several hundred thousand residents to gain access to Internet of Things (IoT). This means that the city’s residents will gain access to new information, such as air quality, or the availability of parking spaces. The project will also add some new options to the city’s lighting system, allowing it to count vehicles, bicycles and pedastrians as they pass through, as well as to adjust the intensity of the light to external conditions.

At the same time, Nokia, together with the city officials, intends to increase the interactivity and efficiency of urban infrastructure, as well as to increasea awareness of new technologies among the residents.
