Finland has topped the 2018 Global Happiness Report, published by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
Finland claimed the first place from Norway, which came second in this year’s index. The top 10 was rounded out by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia.

The Nordic countries have dominated the index since it was first published in 2012.

The World Happiness Report ranks 156 countries by happiness levels, assessing factors such as life expectancy, social support and corruption. This year, for the first time, the report also evaluated 117 countries on the happiness and wellbeing of their immigrants, and found a clear correlation between the happiness of the locally born and immigrants.

“A society’s happiness seems contagious,” noted John Helliwell, co-editor of the World Happiness Report, in The Washington Post.
The International Day of Happiness is celebrated on 20 March.
