Helsinki is a quality city for millennials 5-05-2017

The Finnish capital is an attractive place for millennials, finds Nestpick’s ‘Millennials City Ranking’ published last week. Helsinki made it to place 20 out of the 100 best cities for millennials to live in the world.

Helsinki tops the list in gender equality and comes third in immigration tolerance, while it has some catching up to do regarding its beer offering with the likes of Prague.

The study was carried out by housing aggregator Nestpick, which used 16 categories deemed important for millennials, including employment, housing and the night scene in each of the thousands of cities it looked at.

“In order for a city to rank highly, we determined that it must have a thriving business eco structure, allow affordable access to the essentials that young people need to survive, have a sense of openness and tolerance that is increasingly prevalent in the 21st century, and lastly, offer a chance for millennials to kick back and relax,”  Nestpick comments in connection with the study.

Nestpick also notes that the mobile generation’s skills are “up for grabs for any cities that can cater to their desires.”

Amsterdam was first by a clear margin, due to its vibrant startup scene and openness and tolerance, followed by Berlin that offers the best nightlife.

The Finnish capital was also deemed a highly attractive option for international talent in the Global Cities Talent Competitiveness Index released earlier this year, where Helsinki came in at third place and Finland at ninth place in the Global Talent Competitiveness Index.

The Finns are a talented bunch in their own rights too, according to the annual IMD World Talent Ranking, where Finland holds a steady sixth place.
