Record number of summer jobs up for grabs this year 3-03-2017

A fifth of businesses are increasing the amount of available summer jobs this year. This year marks the highest number of available jobs in five years, and application season is in full swing.

According to a survey by the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), a fifth of businesses are increasing the amount of available summer jobs this year. This year marks the highest number of available jobs in five years.

EK plans to increase summer jobs amongst its members to 100,000 jobs – 10,000 more than last year.

Specialist Jenni Ruokonen from EK says the goal is a realistic one:

The economy is cheering up a bit, and that is reflected on the job market. Thanks to growing demand, businesses are finally able to hire more summer employees again,” Ruokonen says.

The sector to employ the most workers this year is trade. Stores are expected to employ 25,000 workers this summer.
