Historic expansion of Copenhagen Airport 9-01-2017

Copenhagen Airport is one of Europe’s fastest-growing airports. A brand new expansion plan will create capacity and facilities to handle 40 million passengers a year and new routes, including 17 long-haul routes.

With a total investment of around DKK 20 billion, the expansion of Copenhagen Airport to handle 40 million passengers a year will be one of the largest privately financed construction projects in Danish history.

The aim of the plan is to create capacity and facilities to handle 40 million passengers a year and more new routes, including 17 long-haul routes serving the whole world, in addition to the existing 36. This will be achieved by developing the western part of the airport, enlarging the area for stands to 1,900,000 m2, twice the size of the current area. This will make it possible to increase the number of aircraft stands from 78 to 124.

The new routes will among other things provide a better basis for carrying export products to emerging economies in Asia.

The gateway to Scandinavia, Europe and the Baltics
Greater Copenhagen is the ideal hub for transport and logistics to Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea Region and Northern Europe with next day delivery access to approximately 100 million affluent consumers.
This is why major logistics providers such as DHL Express, UPS, TNT, PostNord and FedEx all use Greater Copenhagen as their logistics hub.

12,500 + 9,000 new jobs
According to a new report from COWI, the project will create 12,500 new jobs in the construction period, of which 80% will be within skilled crafts, as well as 9,000 permanent jobs after the expansion.
