The Swedish government plans to lower electricity taxes on data centers 18-07-2016

The Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Mikael Damberg, and the Minister for Finance, Magdalena Andersson, announced that the Swedish Government is planning a significant reduction of electricity taxes for data centers.

This is the next step in the government’s initiative to increase Sweden’s competitiveness in the tech industry. Data centers will pay 0.5 öre/kWh (0.005 SEK or USD 0.0006/kWh).

The Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Mikael Damberg, praised the tax reduction, claiming that the proposal will drive digitalization and bring commercial value to Sweden. This new initiative should create hundreds of new jobs throughout Sweden.

According to the inquiry the new energy tax will take effect on 1 January 2017.
