Once again Copenhagen Airport has been rated the most efficient airport in Europe, marking the tenth time in twelve years the honour has been bestowed upon the airport in Copenhagen. The organization behind the award 'Europe's most efficient airport' is the international and independent Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) - a group of professors and aviation experts from universities worldwide who have developed a method for comparing airport efficiency.

"We see this award as recognition of our efforts to strengthen our position as one of the most important hubs of northern Europe. Although this is the tenth time in twelve years that Copenhagen Airport wins the award for being Europe's most efficient airport, we do not take it for granted. We are constantly working on increasing customer satisfaction and efficiency through automation and self-service solutions, which also means that we are reducing costs for our partners," says Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports.

Connected efficiency in Denmark

The Chairman of ATRS, Professor Tae Hoon Oum of the Sauder School of Business, emphasizes that with increasing competition in airport transport markets worldwide, rankings are helpful not only to the airport and airlines, but also to governments, consultants, regulatory commissions, institutional investors, researchers, graduate students and, of course, leisure and business travellers.

An important parameter in ATRS’ analysis is the ability to handle complexity. Compared to other airports, CPH has a very large proportion of international flights, and this requires highly efficient security, baggage handling and transferring.

Hence, for several years Copenhagen Airport has also been at the forefront of introducing self-service and new technology solutions, initially with self-service check-in kiosks and later with facilities ranging from self-service bag drops to automatic boarding pass control at security and at the gates.

And not only is Copenhagen Airport efficient in itself – it is also efficiently connected to the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Both trains and metro lines are connected to the airport terminals, ensuring swift transportation to Copenhagen, the rest of Denmark, as well as neighbouring Sweden. In fact, it will take a traveller less than 15 minutes to go from Copenhagen Airport to the centre of Copenhagen by metro - which runs every 3-4 minutes.

The award as "Europe's most efficient airport" was presented to Copenhagen Airport at the 2016 ATRS World Conference in Rhodes Island, Greece.
