The Good Country Index has placed Denmark in third, Finland in fourth, Sweden in sixth and Norway in 10th position globally.
Altogether, 163 countries around the world were assessed, examining the good that countries do for humanity, along with what each takes away.
The index drew on 35 separate indicators sourced from the UN, World Bank and other international organisations. Together these helped ascertain each country’s contributions to culture, international peace and security, world order, planet and climate, prosperity and equality, and health and wellbeing.
Afghanistan was ranked last in the index.
The index was first compiled by English independent policy advisor Simon Anholt in 2014, with the goal of changing the culture of governance worldwide.
