Danish PM in Warsaw to discuss Baltic Pipe project 18-04-2016

Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen during his Monday (18.04.2016) visit to Warsaw will discuss with Polish PM Beata Szydlo the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline thanks to which Poland could import gas from Norway.
Spokesman for the Polish government Rafal Bochenek has told PAP that the Polish and Danish PMs will also discuss EU affairs, eastern policy and the situation in Ukraine.

However, the main issue will be the diversification of gas supply sources. "We and the Danes have common interests regarding this issue. For sure we will address the matter of the renewal of the Baltic Pipe project" said Bochenek.

He added that talks with the Danes were a part of the Polish government's steps to draw draw a new gas supply channel to Poland. "We have already spoken with the Norwegians. The issue has been raised also in earlier talks with the Danes. According to our information, they also want to import Norwegian gas. We can join forces and pursue our interests," said the government spokesman.

Gas supplies from the North Sea to Poland were a key topic discussed by PM Szydlo during her visit to Norway in early February. After meeting Norway's PM Erna Solberg, Szydlo declared at the time that Poland will do everything to create conditions for the construction of a gas pipeline from the North Sea to Poland as this offered the possibility of raising the country's energy security.

Polish and Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) deputy CEO Maciej Wozniak has said that basing on "absolutely preliminary data, it would be cost-effective to build infrastructure with a capacity of approx. 7 billion cubic meters of gas per year." (PAP)
