Increase in the number of European Patents granted to Finland 14-03-2016

The number of European Patents being granted to Finland has increased 17.5 per cent in the last year.

This comes despite a 8.3 per cent reduction in the rate of Finnish applicants for the European patent. 744 patents applied for in Finland were approved by the European Patent Office.

Finland applied for the most patents in digital communications. This comes as investments are being made in sectors such as medical tech and IT.

A significant increase in the number of applications shows that Europe is a central place for innovators from all over the world and at the same time also an attractive technology market,” Benoît Battistelli, president of the European Patents Office, welcomed the increase in applicants.
