fDi Intelligence: Greater Copenhagen has Europe's best FDI strategy 23-02-2016

Greater Copenhagen’s strategy to attract foreign investment is the best among Europe’s mid-sized regions.

Greater Copenhagen is ranked first for its strategy to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in the European Cities and Regions of the Future rankings 2016/17 by fDi Intelligence published by the Financial Times.

Greater Copenhagen is the winner of best FDI strategy among Europe’s mid-sized regions because it has a lot to offer to international companies in terms of attractive high-growth sectors and a strong focus on attracting and retaining talent, backed by a very visionary and well thought-through strategy for attracting foreign investors and companies”, said Courtney Fingar, Editor-in-Chief of fDi Magazine that is behind the rankings.

Copenhagen Capacity developed the FDI strategy for Greater Copenhagen who won in the category medium-sized European regions with between 1.5 and 4 million inhabitants, where also the Greater Stockholm Region, Northern Ireland, the Basque County and Wallonia were on the shortlist.

Business opportunities in life sciences, cleantech and smart city solutions

The national Danish investment promotion agency, Invest in Denmark, cooperates closely with Copenhagen Capacity and hopes that the recognition of Greater Copenhagen will attract even more investors to Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark.

Greater Copenhagen presents strong clusters and competencies within areas such as life sciences, cleantech and smart cities and great conditions for R&D. As an example, Hitachi opened a big data laboratory in Denmark with development of new digital healthtech solutions as one aim. The establishment of sixteen new high-tech hospitals in Greater Copenhagen offers great opportunities for developing and testing new digital healthtech solutions.

In December, Denmark was ranked the best country for business worldwide by Forbes magazine, and in October, the World Bank renamed Denmark no.1 in Europe in its Doing Business Index.
