Finland leads in number of ICT specialists 29-07-2015

The Finnish workforce has the highest proportion of ICT specialists, according to the country comparison in the Digital Economy Outlook 2015 published by the OECD. Finnish companies were also number one in the use of cloud services. The study is a comparison of 34 countries.

The proportion of ICT specialists of Finland’s entire workforce is six per cent. Sweden came second with just over five per cent, followed by Luxembourg and Switzerland with just under five per cent each. In the use of cloud services by companies, Finland was followed by Iceland, Italy and Sweden.

In its study, the OECD encourages countries to invest in the productivity of digitalisation and in innovations that provide new opportunities for growth and employment. In addition, the OECD highlights the opportunities presented by technology in all sectors of society.

According to Finland’s Ministry of Employment and the Economy, digitalisation is a defining theme of the current government programme and can be seen in two of the government’s spearhead projects. The spearhead project to digitalise administrative services is aimed at achieving a leap forward in productivity in terms of public finances. The second project is focussed on building a growth environment for digital business.
