Denmark doubles EU climate target 6-07-2015

The Danish government has just put a new climate change bill into law, setting its 2020 ambition at twice that of the EU, underlining Denmark’s position as a frontrunner within climate solutions.

The newly published climate change bill was put into law and binds Denmark to reduce its emissions 40% by 2020 – double the EU target.

The bill, which received wide support from a cross-section of the political parties that make up Denmark’s coalition government, boosts the country’s already ambitious policies on tackling climate change.

Denmark’s innovative approach to climate change is also noticeable in Copenhagen and the local meetings industry. With the nickname ‘Capital of Sustainable Meetings’ and a string of eco-certified events in its portfolio, Copenhagen is acknowledged as a role model for sustainable event management. The new Danish climate law solidifies this position and backs Copenhagen’s ambition of becoming Co2 neutral in 2025.
