Icelanders top donors to UNICEF 16-06-2015

Nowhere in the world did the general public donate as much to UNICEF last year, as in Iceland. On average, Icelanders donated $12 each to the UNICEF Children's Fund last year, followed by Sweden with $9 and Luxembourgh with $7. These figures only account for the donations of private individuals and entities.

The number of Global Parents in Iceland then increased by 18,5 percent, and they are now 26,152. This was announced at UNICEF Iceland's annual meeting last week.

In her address, chairman Svanhildur Konráðsdóttir emphasized the vital importance of such support in times of crisis, and added that in 2014 UNICEF declared a record number of highest-level humanitarian emergencies. These were in Syria, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Gaza, Iraq, and parts of several West African countries during the ebola crisis.
