International investments into Finland on the rise 18-03-2015

In 2014, the inflow of direct international investments into Finland grew slightly from the previous year. According to the statistics of Invest in Finland, which is part of Finpro, 229 new foreign-owned companies came to Finland in 2014, compared to 213 in 2013.

The most important countries investing in Finland were Sweden, the UK, the United States, France and Norway. Most investments were made in the ICT sector, business services, health care and wellness sector, consumer trade and environmental technology.

According to Finpro, the availability of skilled workforce is one of the most important factors affecting investment decisions.

Direct investments into Finland bring major benefits to the national economy. They stimulate economic growth, create export revenues and jobs, inject new capital into R&D and strengthen our business networks,” says Finpro CEO Markus Suomi.

The fragile situation in the global and European economy, coupled with the uncertainty caused by the crisis in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia made 2014 a challenging year in terms of foreign investments.
