Finnish innovation heads for global biogas markets 4-02-2015

The leading Finnish supplier on the biowaste markets, Envor Biotech, has developed a solution for the recovery of nitrogen from wastewater.

Due to new technology based on their user experience and product development work, the efficiency of nitrogen extraction improves dramatically. The innovation enables the uninterrupted recovery of nitrogen at the treatment plant and achieves significant cost savings as maintenance measures become more efficient.

“Our new technology is applicable on a broad scale to various areas of wastewater treatment and we believe that this will interest especially small and medium-sized treatment plants. The market opportunities for our investment run into the millions of euros globally,” says Envor Biotech’s Development Manager Teemu Aittamaa.

Behind the innovation is the nitrogen recovery plant built for the treatment of reject water and taken into use by Envor last year. It uses a method called ammonia stripping for extracting nitrogen.

“Thanks to the innovation we can process the recovered nitrogen into a growing number of end products. The new equipment enables us to further reduce the volume of nitrogen in the wastewater flowing into a city’s treatment plants,” says Aittamaa.
