Finland was the fourth most innovative country in 2014, according to Bloomberg Rankings. Previous year Finland was ranked in the ninth place.

South Korea, Japan and Germany hold the three top spots.
Sweden was ranked in 7th, Denmark in 11th and Norway in 15th place.

The rankings examined countries to determine their innovation quotient. Innovation was measured by R&D intensity, manufacturing capability, high-tech company density, researcher concentration, education levels of a country’s workforce and patent activity. 

Finland was placed in the top 25 for all pillars, being first in research personnel and third in postsecondary education and R&D intensity. According to the index, Finland’s weakest performance was in high-tech enterprises, where it ranked 25th.
