Increased earnings from fisheries in Norway 21-01-2015

The value of the total catch by Norwegian fishermen in 2014 reached NOK 14 billion, an increase by 1.5 billion from the year before, following a record year both in catch and turnover, according to the Directorate for Fisheries.

In Northern Norway, 400.000 tons of cod were landed in 2014. This is the best year ever, and 15.000 tons more than in 2013, which was also a record year. However, the main reason for the increase in total value from the fisheries, is the increase in price on the world markets, NRK reports.

Norwegian vessels landed a total of 2.3 million tons of fish and shellfish last year, at a total value of NOK 14.2 billion. A total of around 6000 vessels, manned by 11,300 fishermen participated in the Norwegian fishing industry in 2014, the Directorate reports.
