Denmark ranks highest on Climate Change Performance Index- presentation at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP19) in Poland 20-11-2013

New report gives Denmark top ranking for its efforts to fight climate change, which was presented at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP19) in Poland.
Denmark is this year’s best performer on the 2014 Climate Change Performance Index, once again claiming the fourth position on the index. The first three positions remain empty to underscore that good is still not good enough.

An ambitious energy policy and high energy efficiency stand out as some of the main reasons for the top ranking, and Denmark managed to slightly improve its score in nearly every sector compared to the previous year.

The report is released by the environmental think tank Germanwatch and CAN Europe and assesses countries based on CO2 emissions, sustainable energy, energy efficiency, as well as environmentally-friendly policies.
- “It is a remarkable recognition of the Danish efforts in the energy sector. Even though Danes use energy like other developed countries, we do it much more efficiently – and we have a clear direction for the transformation of our energy sector. It is also obvious that CO2 emissions from our electricity and heat production is one of the important factors that brings Denmark upwards in the index. Here we have done a lot,” concludes Charlotte Søndergren, Head of Department at the Danish Energy Association.
