12-09-2011Collection of waste of electrical and electronic equipment organized by Stena Recycling – partner of the Clean Up the World action and The Our Earth Foundation.
During the nationwide Clean Up the World action, Stena Recycling is organizing a collection of waste of electrical and electronic equipment in seven cities in Poland handing in return plant seedlings, herbs and eco-gadgets! The part of the income obtained from collected waste will be donated for so called “Green Philanthropist Foot” program conducted by The Our Earth Foundation, which aims is to help the child care centers. The event will take place on 16-17 September 2011.
During The Clean Up the World event organized by The Our Earth Foundation for the 18th time - Stena Recycling, this year's partner, will organize the collection of waste of electrical and electronic equipment in Warsaw, the Tri-City, Swarzędz, Łódź, Siemianowice Śląskie, Szczecin and Wrocław. Stena Recycling will collect, in particular “big household appliances”, such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers as well as “small household appliances” – hair dryers, curlers, tape recorders and mobile phones. The event will take place on 17th September with the exception of Swarzędz and Wrocław where waste collection will start on 16th September.
The part of the income obtained from collected waste of electrical and electronic equipment, Stena Recycling will donate for the “Green Philanthropist Foot” program. The aim of the program is to improve energy efficiency in institutions dedicated for children (including children's homes) by providing energy-efficient fluorescent lamps and high-end household appliances (energy class A + +).
Through organizing this action we want to show that we should start Cleaning Up the World from our own backyard. Collecting waste is a good opportunity to get rid of unused equipment, which we usually store in our homes and basements. Referring to the idea of this year’s Clean Up the World action we want to influence people to clean the forests up from waste of electrical and electronic equipment. We are interested in building awareness among present generation of how vital is a rational use of resources. Through giving back used household appliances for recycling to use them in creating new products, we can significantly contribute to protect the Earth's natural resources and reduce CO2 emission – emphasizes Anna Nowakowska, Director of PR, Marketing & Brand Department at Stena Recycling.
Moreover, as a socially responsible company we support the initiatives aimed at the youngest. Participation in the “Green Philanthropist Foot” program not only provides better equipment for children’s homes, but also enables to build a pro-ecological attitude among the youngest.
Waste of electrical and electronic equipment contains all kind of used household appliances, which are supplied with power by electric current or batteries and as well fluorescent lamps. Each of these devices have components suitable for reprocessing, which are a valuable source of new materials. At the same time waste of electrical and electronic equipment contains substances that may be dangerous to human health and the environment, this is the main reason according to Polish law for not throwing them into regular bins. They should be placed in special containers and sent to collection point. Afterwards they must be recycled.
In vast majority of Polish cities, the above mentioned action is supported by Leroy Merlin through providing the space needed to organize a collection point. The honorary patronage of the waste collection includes municipalities such as Gdynia, Łódź, Siemianowice Śląskie, Swarzędz, Szczecin, Warsaw, Wrocław and Targówek City Hall in Warsaw.
