6-09-2010“Where is the money? The Future of the Banking Sector in Europe”
KPMG invites to the discussion panel entitled "Where is the money? The future of the banking sector in Europe" - which will take place at the Krynica Economic Forum, on September 8, from 5:05 P.M. to 6:20 P.M. at the Stary Dom Zdrojowy (the Old Spa House), the Presidents' Room.
The Main Speaker at the panel will be Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, the head of the Prime Minister's Economic Council. The disscusion will be moderated by Krzysztof Rozen, partner at KPMG.
After the bankruptcy of the Lehman Brothers investment bank in 2008, the world`s financial system was paralyzed. Lack of liquidity in the banking system was one of the main drivers of the world`s recession and, as a result, majority of European and US financial institutions had to accept direct financial aid from their governments. Why the world`s largest financial institutions found themselves on the edge of solvency? Was it just the shareholders’ capital outflow, or maybe the loss was much more severe? Should governments control, support or regulate the banking system? If so, how governments should act? Is the financial crisis over, or is it still ahead of us? What are the challenges that the European banks have to face? What should the CEOs and Board Members of financial institutions concentrate on in the upcoming years? Should we expect financial institutions turning back to more traditional and conservative operating models? What’s the current performance of the Polish banks in comparison to other European financial institutions?
