PAST and PASE
A key moment in Ericsson's history in Poland was the establishment of the Polska Akcyjna Spółka Telefoniczna (PAST) in 1922, headquartered at Zielna Street 39 in Warsaw. The first skyscraper in Poland was built there, symbolizing modernity and technological progress. Manholes with the distinctive PAST logo featuring lightning bolts can still be found on the streets of Polish cities.
In 1924, another enterprise with Swedish capital was organized – the Polska Akcyjna Spółka Elektryczna "Ericsson" (PASE), headquartered in the historic building at Al. Ujazdowskie 47, which still stands today. The company established its own telecommunication workshops in Warsaw at Mokotowska Street 60.
The Era of Switchboard Operators – Opportunities for Women
At the beginning of the 20th century, women were socially marginalized, with the job market largely closed to them. The emancipation process significantly accelerated thanks to companies that decided to employ women on modern terms. Ericsson was a pioneer in hiring women. Working at the telephone exchange was considered a prestigious job, and switchboard operators were respected in society.

Entering the Digital Era
The turn of the 20th and 21st centuries brought dynamic development in mobile telephony and the internet. Ericsson, as a market leader, introduced innovative technologies that revolutionized our daily communication. The company was involved in the development of GSM networks and later 3G and 4G, facilitating the widespread adoption of mobile telephony and mobile internet.
Towards the Future: 6G, Metaverse, and New Technologies
Ericsson heavily invests in research and development. The Polish R&D center is the second-largest Ericsson facility in Europe after the headquarters in Sweden. Polish engineers work on developing networks from 2G to 6G, handling the full software lifecycle for each network generation.

Ericsson in Poland contributes significantly to the development of next-generation networks, not only through R&D engineers in Krakow and Łódź but also through the production of 5G equipment in Tczew. Technologies built in Europe are based on "Made in Poland" components and solutions.
One of the most exciting areas of development is the metaverse – a virtual reality that could revolutionize the way we work, learn, and spend our free time. Ericsson was the first in the telecommunications industry to launch a pioneering training program in the metaverse and is an active member of the Metaverse Committee in Poland.
Throughout its 120 years of presence in Poland, Ericsson has continuously pursued innovation, shaping the future of telecommunications in Poland and worldwide and inspiring the next generation of tech innovators.
