Scania Growth Capital invests in sensors for autonomous vehicles

The corporate venture capital fund Scania will invest EUR 7.5 million in Scantinel to finance the further development of its specialized LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology.

Scantinel Photonics GmbH is a leading start-up in the field of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, part of the German ZEISS Ventures portfolio. The company develops and manufactures FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) sensors for next-generation LiDAR systems that are essential for the transition to a higher level of automation. The technology offered by Scantinel is a new data dimension for the vehicles of the future. The sensors measure distance and velocity to objects over 300 meters with a high level of integration and semiconductor scanning.

- The performance and safety of future autonomous vehicles are based on the unique FMCW LiDAR sensor technology. Scantinel is a technology leader in its field. We are very happy to be able to observe the development of this technology directly, emphasizes Christian Zeuchner, partner at the Scania Growth Capital management company.

The funding will enable Scantinel to further improve the FMCW LiDAR technology, as well as its commercial implementation in close cooperation with customers and technology partners.

- We see great benefits from having an investor in the form of a venture capital fund. We look forward to establishing a relationship with Scania Growth Capital and supporting our continued growth journey, ” adds Andy Zott, Technical Director and Co-founder of Scantinel.
