Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) develops solutions to ensure the security of the 5G Core network and introduces the new Ericsson Packet Core Firewall, based on cloud computing.

Core network security is a key element already at the network design stage. The design and production processes are essential to ensure the safety and functionality of the end product. The Packet Core Firewall solution is part of Ericsson's 5G platform.

The solution is equipped with advanced security technology prepared by A10 Networks (NASDAQ: ATEN). It supports end-to-end network slicing and processing by edge devices.

Packet Core Firewall reduces costs by more than 50 percent compared to dedicated security solutions. This is possible thanks to a single CNF (Native Cloud Networking) solution with simplified management.

Folke Anger, Ericsson Packet Core Solutions Manager, says: “Building a secure 5G network requires a holistic view, not a single technical focus. We are currently introducing the Ericsson Packet Core Firewall, which is seamlessly integrated with the Packet Core Gateway. This will provide our customers with a significant cost reduction while ensuring the presence of 5G services on the edge. ”

Patrick Donegan, Founder, and Lead Analyst at HardenStance, says: “Telecom operators need to take a different approach to implement security measures on the 5G core network. The Ericsson Packet Core Gateway and the Packet Core Firewall integrate the user plane and security functions into a single native cloud networking function (CNF). This allows for cost optimization. "

Dhrupad Trivedi, CEO and Chairman of the Board at A10 Networks, said: “Operators are starting to use cloud and distributed architecture to support 5G network technology. This adds to the critical need for network security and availability. A10 is pleased to be able to expand its partnership with Ericsson as it will contribute to supporting current and future 5G use cases. Ericsson Packet Core Firewall based on A10 Networks technology is ready for deployment in the cloud and responds to the evolving business needs of operators ”.
