20-02-2018

IKEA resolved the grant contest “Zabawa to powaĹĽna sprawa” (Fun is a serious matter) addressed to Polish institutions that help children and young people in difficult life situations on a daily basis. Each of the selected organizations will receive grants in the range of 20,000 to 50,000 PLN for the implementation of the program.

The IKEA grant competition in Poland is part of the international social campaign 'Fun is a serious matter', the aim of which is to help children at risk of exclusion in communities around the world. The recipients of the national competition were non-governmental organizations and other entities that carry out activities aimed at supporting emotional and intellectual development as well as the activity of children and youth in Poland. The competition, conducted from November to mid-December 2017, received 137 project applications. The selection of winners was made by the competition committee, which included IKEA employees, representatives of various departments of the organization.

Poverty, or the main cause of social exclusion, affects over 18% of children and young people in Poland (data from the Central Statistical Office 2016). At the same time, from year to year there are less and less valuable institutions providing them with effective support. Only 9% of children, who should use the help of community day care centers, have access to them.

IKEA saw this need and organized a competition to help Polish support centers for children and young people. The total amount of the prize for five organizations that proposed the most interesting development and support programs is PLN 148,500. It is also the total income from the sale of the unique SAGOSKATT 2017 toy collection, which was designed by children, including 9-year-old Hubert from Poland.
