KPMG: Global Automotive Executive Survey 2018

26-01-2018

The annual KPMG International “Global Automotive Executive Survey” report analyzes leading trends in the global automotive industry. The 2018 edition was based on interviews with over 900 auto industry executives. The survey was conducted between July and November 2017 using online questionnaires.

The KPMG study shows that the most important trend in the automotive market is currently electric vehicles fueled by energy from fuel cells. However, the answers show belief that in the long term, several types of propulsion systems will co-exist in the market, and their popularity will depend on the nature of the use of vehicles, local regulations and customer preferences. At the same time, as many as three out of four industry managers believe that the share of vehicles produced in Western Europe will be lower by 5% by 2030, and production will largely move to Asian countries.

The KPMG report shows that in the future, it will be problematic to distinguish business models related to the transport of people and goods. Delivery services using autonomous cars, car sharing and new service platforms will revolutionize mobility patterns and lead to a combination of mobility and logistics. 73% of industry executives are convinced that in 10 years' time, traditional public transport solutions could be replaced by autonomous on-demand vehicles.
