Electrolux Poland: Taste & Share educational and information campaign
16-10-2017On October 3rd, Electrolux started an educational campaign in which Poles are encouraged to change their behavior and reduce their food waste. Under the Taste & Share tagline, the company has launched a mobile app for easy sharing of food, a website with tips and recipes for cooking leftovers, and culinary workshops under the guidance of professional chefs.
The global scale of waste is great - in relation to both natural resources of Earth and food. In addition, this is a problem in which every person is directly involved - our daily choices affect both the state of the environment and the amount of food being thrown out. According to the Food Banks report in 2016, Poland is at the top of the list for European countries where the most food is thrown out. Within one year, in our country we lose as much as 52 kg of food per person.
It is our duty to change the world for the better
Reducing the amount of food wasted, especially on such a large scale, becomes a matter of great importance.
- Every year in Poland, about 9 million tons of food are wasted, of which 2 million tons are dumped by households. An initiative like Foodsharing shows people what to do to counter food waste at such a large scale. In addition, we want to point out how to make more efficient use of food and how to share it. It's starting to change. Foodsharing means sharing and giving the products a second life. Each of us has an impact on reality, and we are here to show how to do it - says Kinga JeĹĽ from Foodsharing Cracow.
This is why Electrolux has decided to launch the Taste & Share program, whose main focus is education, spreading of good practice, and the initiation of actions to counter food waste. New solutions in the kitchen, new ways to use home appliances, paying attention to how to properly store food and how to cook from the remnants - are the basics of the program.
- We are a leader in the manufacturing of kitchen appliances, so we have an obligation, but also an ability to contribute to solving the problems of food preparation and consumption. And that's what we do, initiating Taste & Share. We want to influence the habits of Poles and give them the tools they can use to reduce the level of wasted food every day - says Tomasz Sypytkowski, General Manager of Electrolux Poland, adding: - In the DNA of our brand, there is a concern for the environment. The future of all of us depends on it. Waste of food is one of the most important issues in the world, especially since this problem is affecting the whole world.
Small steps to reach the goal
The Taste & Share program consists of several elements that inspire and motivate people to make changes to their daily activities, which over time become an obvious choice. A new Taste & Share mobile app has been launched. It was built for two operating systems - Android and iOS. The application is a communication platform that facilitates sharing of food (especially those that would otherwise fall into the trash).
Application basics
Anyone who has food that they do not eat and which is fit for consumption can submit it to the app. Another user who believes that these products are needed may contact the "donor" by the application and collect the products from him. Users can submit and exchange food products and semi-finished products, as well as ready meals. The products reported will need to be fresh and have a valid shelf-life.
On the dedicated website tasteandshare.pl, you will find advice on proper food storage, as well as recipes for products that stay in the fridge and often, because of lack of ideas for their use, go to the trashcan.
The Electrolux Taste Center in Warsaw will also host cooking workshops with leftovers. It will be led by Karina Zuchora, ETC Chef, finalist of the first edition of the MasterChef program. Karina proves that thanks to some basic knowledge and a little imagination, you can conjure delicious dishes from very random products.
The whole project was developed in cooperation with experts and partners - non-governmental organizations, for whom the fight against waste is the basic activity. These include: the program expert - Foodsharing Cracow, partners - WorldChefs, Zupa na Plantach of Cracow, Zupa na Placu & JadĹ‚ostacja from Rzeszów, MiserArt from WrocĹ‚aw, Podzielimy siÄ™ of Warsaw and the AllIN foundation from Cracow, Environment Protection League, the Homo Sacer Foundation, Terazsrodowisko.pl.
