Volvo Polska Sp. z o.o.: Wrocław bus factory in the lead for electromobility

6-10-2017

The Volvo Buses factory in Wrocław is getting more and more orders for electric city buses. So far - mainly from abroad. Now the Swedish manufacturer, with its largest European factory in Wrocław, is finishing the delivery of 35 modern hybrids for Sosnowiec and declares further active participation in the development of electromobility in Poland.

Up until now, Volvo has mainly exported electrified public transport buses from its Wrocław factory - they are a part of public transport in many countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Luxembourg, Austria and the Netherlands. So far, Volvo has provided more than 3,500 electrified buses to public transport operators. Currently, the company is seeing increased interest from Polish cities. This is due to the local authorities' concern for the environment and comfort of the inhabitants, and to the possibility of financing the purchase of new buses with EU funds for electrified public transport.

Volvo is keen on actively addressing the needs of Polish cities – this was discussed by Tadeusz KoĹ›ciĹ„ski, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Ulf Magnusson, Vice President of Volvo Bus Corporation during a visit of Deputy Minister KoĹ›cian at the Volvo factory in WrocĹ‚aw.

- Government-sponsored development of electromobility, increased interest in low carbon emissions in cities, and a growing desire to purchase non-municipal buses from urban transport - are factors that naturally influence Volvo's growing focus on Poland. Electrified vehicles seem to be a natural choice, especially since their operation is cheaper and more energy efficient, and they are quiet and can move freely in selected urban areas. We have extensive know-how in the field of electric bus management in cities and we are happy to assist you in this area. We want to take an active part in the electrification of Polish public transport - said Ulf Magnusson, Vice President, Volvo Bus Corporation.

- Poland is today the leading supplier of electric buses to European cities. We are delighted that Polish factories, such as the Volvo plant in Wrocław, are able to compete on the demanding European market. I believe these experiences will be transferred to Poland, and the governmental program to support electromobility will contribute to the rapid development of low carbon transport in Polish cities - said Tadeusz Kościński, Deputy Minister of Development.

Wrocław's factory is the largest Volvo bus factory in Europe. Complete city, interurban and tourist buses are assembled here, provided to urban public transport operators, intercity and international carriers and tourist companies on markets throughout Europe.

In 2010, the production of hybrid buses started in the Wrocław factory. Today, Volvo offers a full fleet of electrified buses. The range includes the Volvo 7900 Hybrid (available also in articulated versions), the Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid and the latest Volvo 7900 Electric. The first Polish city that ordered modern Volvo hybrids was Świerklaniec, then Inowrocław. Today, Volvo is completing the delivery of 35 hybrid buses to Sosnowiec.
