Helsinki Design Week, 26.08-5.09.2010

26-08-2010

First organised in 2005, this urban event, encompassing design, architecture and fashion, has evolved into a real phenomenon. Helsinki Design Week is designed to encourage companies to expand in new directions, to contribute to regional development around Helsinki and to become increasingly international. Helsinki Design Week includes exhibitions, seminars, workshops, fashion shows and shopping experiences, as well as open houses at private homes, public buildings and design studios.

Helsinki Design Week 2010 gathers design professionals and the general public together around the theme of storytelling. The verbalisations and visuals created by the author Kari Hotakainen and the design studio Ahonen&Lamberg unravel the meaning of design in people’s everyday lives and speak to the power of stories. The week of events, exhibitions and publications is in itself a story conveying the message of design. Helsinki Design Week offers design professionals a unique opportunity to showcase design expertise and diversity and allows all those involved to be a part of the story. Our sights are already set on the year 2012, when Helsinki will be the World Design Capital. The story of design will continue until 2012 and from thenceforth into the future.
