The institution of a state enterprise is deemed as a remnant of the age of communism. At the moment there are only 40 state enterprises left. It is possible that soon they will cease to exist. The government is preparing a draft of a new act on ownership supervision, which is to introduce the obligation of putting the state enterprises on the market i.e. the obligation of their transformation into commercial companies. The draft assumed the deadline for founding authorities to put the state enterprises on the market until the end of 2012. Ones which would still operate after January 1, 2013 would be subject to liquidation by virtue of law.
The draft will soon be subject to discussion by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers.
