At the beginning of February, the government had approved of the draft legislation to the Law on Foreigners which was later passed to Sejm for discussion. The new legislation addresses issues relating to granting of visas for citizens of third countries, i.e. those outside the EU. Under the new legislation, visas will be divided into Schengen visas (which would enable citizens of third countries, to travel in the Schengen Area up to three months and they would be valid in the majority of the EU countries) and national visas (which would permit citizens of third countries to stay in Poland for more than three months but not more than one year).
Under the new legislation, a citizen who applies for a national visa would have to have a document which would confirm health insurance or a health insurance contract of at least EUR 30 thousand valid for the period of intended stay in Poland.
