Trade Unions will not appoint Employees’ Councils

1-05-2009

Senat is working on an amendment to the Act on Employees’ Councils. The draft of the amendment stipulates that the Councils’ members will be elected by employees of a given workplace, and not by local trade unions. The necessity of the change follows from the wording of the Constitutional Tribunal’s judgment (file no. K 23/07). The current provisions remain in force only until July 8, 2009 and if they are not changed until that date, the present Employees’ Councils will work on the basis of unconstitutional provisions.
