IKEA Second-Hand Platform launched in Poland

The IKEA Second-Hand Platform is an online marketplace launched by the Swedish company Ingka Group (which also owns IKEA). The new solution is part of IKEA’s efforts to develop a circular economy and digital services to support life at home.
After successful tests in Spain, Norway and Portugal, Poland becomes one of the first markets where the IKEA Second-Hand Platform is launched for a wide group of customers.
“With the launch of the IKEA Second-Hand Platform in Poland, we are taking a significant step towards making IKEA products even more affordable, while allowing customers to easily extend the life of their furniture. Our ambition is to encourage customers to give furniture a second life, in an easy and accessible way,” says Kirsten Andersson, Managing Director for Platform & Marketplaces, Ingka Group.
What is the IKEA Second-hand platform?
On the IKEA Second-hand Platform, customers can put up for sale used IKEA products – both those available in the current offer and furniture or accessories from collections that are no longer available. All you have to do is add photos, a description and arrange the pickup details with the other party. Product specifications and photos will be taken from the database, supplementing the announcement with important details. The seller can choose one of two forms of withdrawal of the earned funds: an IKEA e-refund card with a 5% discount on subsequent purchases at IKEA or a bank transfer.
The platform has been designed to make the sales process simple, secure and intuitive. Users use trusted payment methods, and every item sold must be an original IKEA product.
“The IKEA Second-Hand Platform is the next step in the development of our digital services and building a coherent, omnichannel shopping experience. It is also a response to the needs of customers who are already exchanging IKEA furniture in various groups on social media. With our platform, they can do so easily and securely – in a place that combines the convenience of technology with trust in the IKEA brand. For the first time in history, IKEA is entering the marketplace model, opening up to a completely new way of collaborating with customers and creating value together with them. We see great potential in this for further development and building long-term relationships with customers,” says Małgorzata Bochenek, Director of Business Development and Digital at IKEA Retail in Poland.
The IKEA Second-hand platform is currently being launched in a test phase for IKEA Family club members in Poland. Customers will be able to use it via the
Second-hand IKEA.

IKEA’s approach to circularity
The global second-hand furniture market is growing rapidly and, according to Mordor Intelligence, is expected to exceed USD 60 billion by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of over 5%1.
At IKEA, circularity is one of the key pillars of business transformation. The company aims to design all products in a way that allows them to be reused, repaired, resold or recycled by 2030. IKEA has consistently developed solutions that allow customers to live more sustainably – m.in through the “Give & Gain” service, which was used 7,942 times last year, and the sale of furniture from the “Round Trip” exhibition, where more than 1.87 million products found new homes. Now the IKEA Second-hand marketplace is also joining this offer. By offering such solutions, IKEA invites customers to join in positive actions that help take better care of their home and the planet – in a simple and accessible way.
