New ferry connection from Port of Gdańsk to Karlshamn in Sweden

POLSCA Baltic Ferries officially launched its regular service from the Port of Gdańsk to the Port of Karlshamn.

The agreement, aimed at launching a new ferry route connecting the Port of Gdańsk and the Port of Karlshamn, was signed in early February this year. The parties to the agreement were the Port of Karlshamn and Polska Żegluga Bałtycka (PŻB), the owner of Polferries.

The connection between the Port of Gdańsk—Poland’s largest port and the sixth-largest in the EU—and the Port of Karlshamn addresses the growing transportation needs between Central Europe, Sweden, Denmark, and southern Norway.

At the Port of Gdańsk, ferries are served at the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal, which is equipped to handle modern ro-ro and ro-pax vessels and to efficiently manage truck traffic.

The new route is served by two ferries—the Copernicus and the Skania—owned by Unity Line. They have a similar load line, measuring approximately 2 km. Each vessel will be able to carry approximately 90 17-meter-long trucks per trip. One of the ferries will be used primarily for cargo transport, while the other is a ro-pax vessel offering comfortable travel conditions for passengers, including dining facilities and cabins.

The shipowner plans to operate up to six sailings per week. The voyage time is approximately 13 hours. According to the schedule, the vessels will depart in the evening from both Gdańsk and Karlshamn and arrive at the ports in the morning.
