Scandinavian Design ISKU
Scandinavian design is all about simplicity – the “less is more” principle fits perfectly here. Natural materials, light, spatial “clarity”, ergonomics, and functionality – these are the elements that make Scandinavian design timeless. And it is precisely this timelessness that connects Pandora jewellery, ISKU furniture, ARROW Architects’ architectural projects, and TT-Line ferries – the common thread of another SPCC event from the Scandinavian Design series.
In Scandinavian design, functionality always goes hand in hand with the high quality of materials. These are designs made to last. Many models that feel incredibly contemporary today were actually created decades ago! The PH lamp, designed by Danish designer Poul Henningsen, is one of the most iconic pieces of Danish design. The first model from the PH series was created in 1925. Later versions have been produced almost unchanged, with the most popular model launched in 1958. Three years earlier, in 1955, the Finnish Tuoli50 chair was awarded a gold medal in a design competition. The chair was recognized for its ergonomic design. To this day, Tuoli remains one of ISKU’s most renowned creations.
It’s simply classic design at its best – which is why these pieces continue to complement modern interiors so well.
There could be no better place to discuss Scandinavian design than the Finnish ISKU showroom. Our guests had the opportunity to explore the furniture in detail, feel the fabric textures, test the pieces, and even choose their favorite armchair model from a selection that has been highly popular and well-loved for years. The winner of the vote? The incredibly comfortable armchair with the charming name “BIG HUG” ????
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Izabela Świtek, Agnieszka Blandzi, Karolina M. Krawczyk, and Anna Siwik for co-organizing yet another inspiring journey through the history and present of Scandinavian style.
